Description
(1876 – 1903) King of Serbia at age thirteen after his father, King Milan, unexpectedly abdicated the throne. The king, along with his wife, were assassinated in 1903 during a military coup, to replace Alexander with Peter Karadordevic. D.S. on his personal mourning letterhead, 1p. 4to., Serbia, March 15, 1901, informing the President of Bolivia, Jose Manuel Pando, of the death of King Milan. In part: ‘...I fulfill a very painful duty in announcing to your Excellency...the death of my very dear and very beloved father, the Majesty King Milan, who died in Vienna on the 29th last January. I am convinced that your Excellency will take part in the inexpressible sorrow...I wish to find a less sad occasion to renew...my high esteem and my sincere friendship...’. Signed in black ink at the conclusion. A few minor soiled spots that do not intrude on text, light creasing, and mailing folds, else fine.
