Description
Rare propaganda postcard related to the 'Anschluss' of Austria in 1938, 4 x 6 in., published in Graz. The slogan at bottom: 'Men it’s time' was a well known battle call from the time of the 1809 Austrian resistance of the people against the French and the Bavarians. Austrian chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg used a similar term during a speech on 9 March 1938 to call out German lies, and show that he stood for a free and independent Austria. After the Anschluss, the Nazis stole this slogan in an attempt to discredit politicians as Kurt von Schuschnigg (shown in the middle of the postcard with glasses), Jews, Social Democrats and other opponents, in an attempt to force them to leave or even imprison them (as happened to von Schussnig). The thrust of the postcard was to implant the idea that only after all opponents were forcefully removed could Austria become 'free'. Fine condition.
