Description
Passport issued to Austrian attorney trainee 'Dr. Max Gaschke', bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to the 39-year-old Gaschke in Vienna on Feb. 21, 1939, still bears his identification photograph, and also bears his particulars on the adjoining page. The ninth page shows a visa inkstamp granted at Vienna on March 20, 1939, certifying him a one-way trip from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Australia and the United Kingdom. An inscription just beneath this indicates he is sailing to Southampton on May 12, 1939 and from there to Colombo on June 4, 1939. The following page is stamped by the Colombo Harbour Police on June 1, 1939, and then by West Australian customs on June 13, 1939. Slight loss to one corner of the front cover, else fine.
