Description
Fine lot of 47 cards signed by American aces, most from World War II with printed reproductions of period aircraft and bearing the legend: '5 DOWN AND GLORY'. Five was the minimum number of aircraft shot down to qualify as an ace. Most have more than five victories, such as JOHN MITCHELL, 16 kills; DEAN COSWELL, 10; L.E. 'TEX' HARRIS, 12; LEONARD 'KIT' CARSON, 18. Some aces give details of their military career and describe combat experience. Among them are HAROLD VITA; JOHN HOEFKER ('The Eyes of General Patton'), HOLLIS HILLS, and C.L. 'JACK' JONES who describes in an A.L.S.: 'I did not know at the time that I had shot down a top Japanese ace. I only knew that whoever he was, he was one crackerjack pilot' An attractive, remarkably comprehensive ensemble.
