Description

Mystery Artist (American, 19th Century). An original oil painting on board. A patriotic marine coastal landscape, depicting an American man of war naval ship asea, with additional ship forms and a Mid Atlantic harbor landscape to background. No apparent signature. The American flag depicted on the ship bears 25 stars, which may date the painting to circa 1836 to 1837, when the United States flag was adorned with 25 stars. Presented in a decorative frame.

Work Size: 28.5 x 39 in.

Dimensions: 31.5 X 42.5 X 1.5 in.

Condition: Good overall condition having normal surface wear, with evidence of craquelure. Older restoration. Frame having moderate surface wear to edges and corners. Estate fresh to the market.
