Historical Early California Gold Rush era letter dated 1850, the signed letter by George K. Danchy to his family, consisting of four pages recto and verso, conjoining leaves (octavo), Stanislaus River, May 19, 1850, on blue stationery reading in part, "... I suppose you would like to know how... men in California... look, well imagine a man with an old greasy worn out wool hat, hair never combed, shirt generally flannel, ragged pants and boots as shoes... such a thing as a... collar why hardly any one in the land but gamblers ever thinks of putting one on." a historical piece of ephemera relating to the life and appearance of a gold prospector in 1850.
