Description
Group of 4 Owen Covert, Artist Signed Hobo Buffalo Nickels. All great bust depictions. Artist signed on reverse with no further reverse modifications. Signed in multiple methods. 1925, 1927, 1928, 1935. Two are signed on the paper flip in ink. The 1935 Indian has a blue stone embedded in head dress. The hobo nickel is a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The nickel, due to its size, thickness, & relative softness, was a favored coin. However, "hobo nickel" is generic, as carvings have been made of many different denominations. Its low cost & portability made this medium particularly popular among hobos.
