Signed to verso with notation: "R. A. Fox / J.A. Fraser Jr. / 1887 / St. Louis". Portrait bust of gentleman in wire-rimmed glasses - possibly a portrait of John Arthur Fraser (Canadian, 1838-1898), a fellow artist in Canada and America from the period, who would have been forty-nine at the time of the piece. In fine gilt frame.

While it is not explicitly clear whether this was a collaborative piece or a direct portrait of Fraser, the dual signature lines up with other portrait work found 1885-1887 signed in the same manner - which suggests Fox may have been working under or in conjunction with Fraser during this period.
