Description
A rare Mark V collectible from WWI. We have never seen one before. This is the 3-pin telephone comms connector with part of the woven comms cable that attached to the comms elbow at the back of the very early USN Mark V helmets. Most of these connectors would have been scrapped when the comms system was upgraded, but this one survived in an old box at Coastal School of Deep-Sea Diving. Around 1954 Coastal bought out the remaining stock from E.R. Cross’s Sparling School which had a lot of USN gear used in their GI Bill program so maybe it came in from there. This connector comes from the first couple of decades when telephones were first being installed in helmets. The end of the cable is lashed around the cable end of the brass connector, and then covered with a brass shield stamped 171, and secured by 6 screws. Very, very, old school lashing craftwork. Considering its age it is in very good condition. A very rare Mark V fitting from the WWI period that has survived being scrapped.
