Description
Pair Cornelius & Co Gilt Girandoles Garniture Electric. Rear marked "Cornelius & Co, Patent April 10, 1849." An example in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago is listed as designed by Isaac F. Baker for the celebrated Philadelphia lighting company. Said to depict Cora Munro from James Fenimore Cooper's Last of the Mohicans. Gilt bronze female figures in Edwardian clothing stand atop white marble bases, with exquisite crystal prisms dangling from floral and bird-adorned crowns above. All these parts appear to be original, though electrical wire has been added, with period-appropriate white and gold floral fabric shades.
Dimensions are 25 in h x 5 in w x 3.25 in d. Condition is good, with some discoloration and surface wear. The lamps have not been tested for function and may need to be rewired. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
