RARE LARGE RUSSIAN SILVER KARELIAN BIRCHWOOD JEWELRY BOX, FABERGE MASTER
An antique Russian silver mounted birch wood jewelry box in the shape of a chest commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty, 1613 to 1913. The lid is adorned with pierced silver overlays with floral patterns and a medallion with engraved portraits of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich and Emperor Nicholas II. Four silver overlays on the sides and front. The casket rests on four spherical legs.
HALLMARKS: '84' silver standard and 'AA' in Cyrillic for goldsmith master Andre Adler. Andre Adler made pieces for House of Faberge.
CONDITION: Very good for age. The item is described to the best of our knowledge. Please refer to pictures and email with any questions.
DIMENSIONS: H- 4 3/4 inches (12cm).

WIKIPEDIA: A birch is a thin-leaved deciduous hardwood tree of the genus Betula in the family Betulaceae, which also includes alders, hazels, and hornbeams. It is closely related to the beech-oak family Fagaceae. The genus Betula contains 30 to 60 known taxa of which 11 are on the IUCN 2011 Red List of Threatened Species. They are a typically rather short-lived pioneer species widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in northern areas of temperate climates and in boreal climates. Birch wood is fine-grained and pale in colour, often with an attractive satin-like sheen. Ripple figuring may occur, increasing the value of the timber for veneer and furniture-making. The highly decorative Masur (or Karelian) birch, from Betula verrucosa var. carelica, has ripple textures combined with attractive dark streaks and lines.
