Central Asia.- Ides (E. Ysbrants) Three Years Travel from Moscow over-land to China, first English edition, engraved additional title, folding engraved map (small hole at fold, tear at fold and another tear with paper repair to verso, all affecting but no loss; soiling to verso), 30 engraved plates, many folding, armorial bookplate, D1 lower fore-edge corner with small defect (not affecting text), some light spotting and browning, mainly to text pages, contemporary mottled calf, gilt arms to covers, spine gilt with red morocco label, joints cracked but firm, extremities rubbed, 4to, W. Freeman et al., 1706

⁂ Evert Ysbrants Ides (1657-1708), a Dane who served as ambassador to China under Peter the Great of Russia, travelled with a journal, the entries into which are the basis of this account and include passages on Great Ustiga, Siriania, Permia, Sibiria, Daour, Great Tartary, The Great Wall, and Peking specifically. Ides' expedition also included the Dutch artist Cornelis de Bruyn and Adam Brand as Secretary to the Embassy.
