Description
Jean-Pierre Cassigneul (French, b. 1935). "Le Peignoir de Bain, 167" lithograph in colors, 1967. Signed in pencil at lower right. Numbered 185/275 in pencil at lower left. A serene portrait of a woman standing on a boardwalk with beachgoers relaxing beneath umbrellas on the sandy shore and sailboats skimming the green waters beyond. Cassigneul is best known for his portraits of stylish women rendered with vibrant hues and expressive contours that recall the works of Les Nabis - i.e. Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard - as well as other French Post-Impressionists. Size of image: 21.25" L x 16.125" W (54 cm x 41 cm) Size of frame: 29.375" L x 23.625" W (74.6 cm x 60 cm)

Jean-Pierre Cassigneul studied at l'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. In addition, Cassigneul studied with French artist Roger Chapelain-Midy. In 1952, Cassigneul had his debut solo exhibition at Galerie Lucy Krohg; he was only 17 years old. Six years later, in 1958, Cassigneul had first exhibition at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts. In 1959, Cassigneul became a member of the prestigious Salon d'Automne. Cassigneul currently resides and works in Paris. He has exhibited throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States.

Jean-Pierre Cassigneul's paintings have fetched impressive hammer prices at Sotheby's and Christie's (most notably $740,000 for "Dans la Roseraie" at Sotheby's).

Signed in pencil at lower right. Numbered 185/275 in pencil at lower left. Set in an attractive custom frame. This artwork has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very good condition. There is also a statement of authentication from Societe de Verification de la Nouvelle Gravure Internationale of New York attached to the verso. Fitted with a suspension wire and ready to display.
