Item Details
Description
Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A lovely copper stamp boasting an openwork, lattice motif face of a roughly circular form, all enveloped in a vibrant turquoise patina. An arched suspension loop rises from the verso, allowing it to be strung in a necklace and worn as a pendant. Stamps like this example would have been used to form a seal, dipped in wax. Seals of this style are sometimes known as "compartmented" seals and were cast both in geometric and figural patterns. They are distinctive to the Bactrian region. Size: 2.1" Diameter (5.3 cm)

Some losses to peripheries. Expected nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with gorgeous patina and nice earthen deposits.
