Description
Con man and swindler (1882–1949) who promised huge profits for buying discounted postal reply coupons in other countries and redeeming them at face value in the United States. In reality, he was paying early investors using the investments of later investors. This type of scheme is now known as a ‘Ponzi scheme.’ Original July 11, 1925, afternoon edition of New London, Connecticut’s The Day, 17 x 22.5, 16 pages. One byline on the front page reads, “Ponzi Adjudged Common Thief; Gets 7–9 Years.” Story reads, in part: “Charles Ponzi…was found guilty on four indictments charging larceny from investors in his international postal reply coupons enterprise.” Central horizontal fold, mild toning, and marginal binding holes to left edge, otherwise fine condition.
