Early Dynastic Period, 1st-2nd Dynasty, circa 3000-2650 B.C.
Of ovoid form, with broad flat rim and two pierced horizonal lug handles, 10.5cm high

Peter Cecil Wilson (1913-1984) Collection, acquired on the London art market in the 1970s; thence by decent. Peter Wilson, an Intelligence officer during World War II, was the charismatic chairman of Sotheby's from 1958-1980. He was responsible for transforming the fortunes of Sotheby's and arguably the art trade as a whole.
