Description
An Egyptian alabaster and bronze ibis
Late Period-Ptolemaic, circa 664-30 B.C.
Depicted seated with its talons splayed, a bronze strut between each claw, the legs, tail feathers and head separately cast in three sections, the sinuous neck with long hooked bill, two deep grooves along the length of the bill, the eyes slightly recessed for inlay, now missing, the talons naturalistically cast and incised, the tail feathers finely incised, tenons below each leg for insertion, 17.5cm long
