OHIO WOVEN CUT-WORK / SCHERENSCHNITTE AND HAIR-WORK FOLK ART HESKETT-MCENDREE FAMILY RECORD, ink, cut-paper, hair, fabric, and thread on paper, the composition is divided by three cut-paper potted plants with long stalks and layered flowers, each column with several vignettes of a hair strand or woven hair with initials or a name and an embellishment, which includes woven cut-work / scherenschnitte hearts or heart-in-hand and cut-fabric black coffins. Housed under glass in period, probably original, veneer frame. Mid 19th century. 12 1/2" x 16" sight, 17 3/8" x 20 7/8" OA.

Catalogue Note: Identified as the Heskett-McEndree family of Jefferson Co., Virginia (now West Virginia) and Belmont Co., Ohio. Sophia Jarrett (1803-1884) married John Heskett (1782-1833) in 1824, and they had at least three children, Lucinda A, John Jarrett, and Thomas E. After John Heskett died, Sophia married Henry Fenton McEndree (1811-1880) in 1836, and they had at least eight children, Richard Hubbard, Susan A., Miranda Jane, Hannah, Henry Fenton, Dardena, William, and Edward Ewen. Lucinda Heskett married Richard A. Corbin on April 3, 1851. The family moved from Jefferson Co., VA (now WV) to Belmont Co., OH between 1836 when Richard was born and 1839 when Susan was born. All named are included on this family record with additional unidentified initials.

Condition
Mostly in good visual condition with some discoloration, stains, small holes, and scattered losses, ink with light to moderate fading, frame with wear, surface scratches, a chip to veneer at lower side, and other imperfections. Not examined out of frame.
