RARE SIGNED DOCUMENT OF DANIEL BOONE. In 1781, Daniel Boone was elected to the Virginia State Legislature representing Bourbon County, now Kentucky. While in Richmond during the 1781 session, Boone and the legislature moved the capitol to Charlottesville as General Cornwallis advanced. Outside of Charlottesville, Boone was one of seven legislators caught up in a raid by Benastre Tarleton in a failed attempt to capture outgoing Virginia Governor Thomas Jefferson. Astonishingly, Boone was held for several days and then released, returning to Charlottesville for the legislative session. Just months later, the Continental Army would force Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown. Boone would go on to serve in two more sessions as a delegate of Virginia in 1787 and again in 1791.
