8vo. Publisher's green cloth titled in gilt on spine, pictorial dust jacket printed in black and brown. Cloth a bit rubbed, upper and lower panels darkened jacket spine panel sunned and darkened, chipped at corners with slight loss of text at spine ends, lightly soiled.
WITH: Printed card announcing Hilton's death loosely inserted, from the British United Services Club, reading 'It is with deepest regret that you are informed of the passing of one of our fellow members, James Hilton, who passed away on Monday, December 20th, 1954, at Long Beach, California.'

FIRST EDITION, with unrestored jacket. Following the success of Lost Horizon and Goodbye Mr. Chips, Hilton moved to California and wrote screenplays, winning an Academy Award(R) for his work on the screen adaptation of Mrs. Miniver in 1942. However, when Lost Horizon was adapted for the screen under Frank Capra's direction in 1937, the screenplay was written by veteran screenwriter Robert Riskin, not by Hilton himself. 100 Best Books 45.
