Description
[A Letter from Valley Forge]. Connecticut Journal. New-Haven, Connecticut; February 11, 1778. Printed by Thomas and Samuel Green. Number 539. Two pages on one leaf, 8" x 14". Unpaginated and printed in three columns. A scarcely seen Colonial newspaper title, featuring a small skirmish at Valley Forge. It reads, in part: "The enemy, after firing and threatening about twenty five minutes, finding so gallant and determine a resistance, and having several of their men badly wounded, gave over their attempt and rode off full sped for Philadelphia." The remainder of this newspaper, quite a short issue, likely due to paper rations at the time, continues with minor news from various fronts of the war and advertisements for the local area, from a scarcely seen colonial-era newspaper title. Condition: Rough edges. Creased and split along old folds with some minor paper loss, all splits professionally repaired. Ink ownership to page [1]. Trimmed close along the top margin, affecting text.
