Description
"Portland Harbour and Islands and Harbours Adjacent, extending from the River Kennebeck, to Wood Island and Winter Harbours, Drawn from the Survey of Des Barres, with Additions and Corrections by L. Moody. The courses are by compass and soundings at low water in fathoms. Engrd by D.G. Johnson. Entered according to Act of Congress, July 13th, 1825." Three sheets joined, as issued. Original linen backing with price of $2.00 present but removed as part of the professional cleaning by Nina Rayer of Portland, Maine (includes restoration report). Some minor toning and lightstains remain, most noticeable in the upper left detail of Portland Harbor, and a small pale blue area at center. Museum mounted in a black carved frame, matted under UV glass, all materials acid-free, OS: 33" x 55", SS: 26 3/4" x 48 3/4". Includes a copy of "Portland Marine Society, 1796 - 1996: A Bicentennial History" by Nicholas Dean and John K. Moulton, Portland Marine Society, Portland, Maine, 1996.
