Description

Antique Name Inscribed or Signature Quilt, from Pittstown, NJ, and dated 1847 in the center block. The quilt measures 84x95 inches. Consists of 56 blocks in an Old Italian pattern, set straight, 7 by 8. Each block measures about 8.5x8.5 inches, with a 2.75 inch sashing and border. The quilt has been washed at some point, and many of the signatures may have washed out. Visible ones include the center Mary Young 1847, John A Young 1847, Several other Young names, and vanHorn, and Finley. Quilt has a label from the Heritage Quilt Project of NJ, Number 03-003-01 and can be viewed on the Quilt Index website. The quilt is documented to be made by Mary H Young from Pittstown, NJ. It has a printed cotton backing and very thin cotton batting. It is hand pieced and sparsely hand quilted. Condition is fair, with spots, some deterioration and fading in signatures. If you have any doubt, please ask questions! We will provide extra pictures, or can schedule an in person or video conference preview at your convenience.
