本作為藝術家以其西方觀點，所演繹中國水墨的新美學，獨創猶如行草、實為英文之「書法」，記載其感悟：「與『南雲』主人短暫居住在一起相處時，我為他的收藏增添了不少奇石，有些只是單純地幫石頭添加底座，以展現石頭本身的自然天趣，有些則或多或少做了一定程度的削切修整，藉以體現其深邃的精神意氣，整體布局可謂極盡變化，隨心所欲，渾然天成。我們朝夕諦觀，賞石悟性，思其經世閱人的窮孑滄桑、看花開花落的氣定神閒，含蓄內斂，內蘊無窮，並用筆捕捉其震撼人心的魅力。然原畫歷經長期冷熱溫濕變化、蟲蛀，我因此憑藉記憶，回想當時兩人於幻想的靜寂山中，講說天地，重新畫出石頭靈動的精神氣韻給予我們的玄妙之感。水松石山房主人作於世界盡頭花園，2019 年春天。」
水松石山房主人生於英國，本名 Hugh Moss，是位聲名遠揚的收藏家、古董商和學者，對中國傳統美學以及蘊含文人審美趣味的古董珍玩頗有研究。早在90 年代，即發掘多位重要中國當代水墨藝術家，近年又於水墨創作上探索出自己的路徑。也因對古董藝術品味卓絕的眼力，使其創作透出精微的文人畫意趣，並呈現詩書畫三者完美融合的意境，以此向中國文人傳統致敬。
