Description
A George II sterling silver coffee pot, London 1738 by Thomas Whipham (reg. 7th June 1737)
of tapering rounded cylindrical form upon a spreading circular foot. The leaf capped curved spout with a moulded junction opposite a wooden double C scroll pinned to scroll sockets leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a bell-form finial, above incised concentric lines. The side engraved with a mid-18th century coat of arms in an asymmetrical lozenge shaped cartouche formed of C scrolls and foliage. The underside with contemporaneous engraved initials F*E over H in Roman script. Fully marked underneath, the lid unmarked.
