Andrew B. White (New Zealand born, based in New York City). "Single Tree Fog", a digital photograph giclee archival pigment print, Hahnemeule Photo Pearl 310gsm, Number 1 of limited edition of 10, 2015. This piece is from Andrew White's "Views of Prospect Park" series. Like Manhattan's famous Central Park, Brooklyn's Prospect Park which opened in 1867 was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. David P. Colley, the author of "Prospect Park: Olmsted and Vaux’s Brooklyn Masterpiece," wrote that "Olmsted and Vaux understood that the natural world seldom displays itself in the ideal, and they set out to construct an impression of nature at its most harmonious and sublime." The ethereal quality of White's composition is in part thanks to Olmsted and Vaux's design, but also due to the fact that White captured this view when no people were present in order to present the natural world as untouched and utterly tranquil. White is interested in the "transformative effects of light and climate conditions" and this certainly comes through in "Single Tree Fog". He gifts us a sensitive composition in which a view of the park is captured in late Autumn when most leaves have fallen from the trees, and yet even without colorful fall leaves, the scene is remarkably beautiful, replete with nature's reflections in the lake enveloped by a foggy mist.
