Description
An antique Dutch figural silver spoon. The handle is adorned with a figurine of St. James the Greater holding a pilgrims staff on the top, the lower part is decorated with a relief biblical image, probably, David. The bowl features with etching on the back. Circa: early 20th century. Marked with a silver hallmark and other Assay marks. Apostle spoons are thought to have originated in late fifteenth century England but also became popular in the Netherlands, where household goods were frequently embellished with biblical imagery reminding the owner of Christian virtues.
