Description
East Asia, China, Wei Dynasty, ca. 386 to 535 CE. A lovely mold made grayware tomb attendant figure of an official, a slender man standing tall with robes and full pants tied below the knees. He wears a characteristic court cap hat denotes his position, and a breast-plate secured by a belt over his tunic, all but hidden by his arms concealed in billowing sleeves that fall past his knees. His face is smooth and rounded, with arched brows, small mouth. The armor over the court attire is an indicator of the militaristic and tumultuous time period the Northern Chinese dynasties were experiencing. This official was made to accompany the deceased to the afterlife to provide assistance with administrative decisions and perhaps protection. Size: 2.25" L x 2" W x 9.5" H (5.7 cm x 5.1 cm x 24.1 cm)
