A GANDHARAN SCHIST FIGURE OF MAITREYA WITH ATTENDANTS
Ancient region of Gandhara, Kushan period, 2nd - 3rd century. Maitreya seated in dhyanasana with the hands lowered in dhyanamudra, clad in a long flowing sanghati, the face with almond-shaped eyes, centered by an urna, the hair in long wavy locks pulled into a topknot. Flanked by two attendants each standing with hands clasped together. Mounted to a recent base.
Condition: Good condition commensurate with age, with wear, notches, erosion, small repairs and losses.
Provenance: From a private collection in Belgium, according to the previous owner acquired in 1996-1998.
