Description
A heavy 925 silver and blue enamel cigarette case by Louis Kuppenheim of Pforzheim, Germany, circa 1920-1930, decorated with a pattern of small stars that apear to "float" in a deep blue enamel ground to both front and back, bright blue "stripes" apear within the deeper blue enamel when the piece is tilted in the light, with gilt washed interior, samped "925" for silver purity, and with the makers mark for Louis Kuppenheim. Of rectangular form, with a push button opener and a spring loaded retaining clip, length 3 3/8 in. x width 2 1/4 in., weight 4.34 troy oz.
Louis Kuppenheim, founded in 1857, was a renowned firm of gold and silver box/case manufacturers in the popular jewellery town of Pforzheim, Germany. They were noted for their high quality craftmanship and enamelling, reaching their peak prominance in the early 20th century. At that time employing around 200 factory workers, opening a Paris store and running a thriving export business. Being of Jewish decent, however, the Kupenheim's business declined after 1933 with the rise of Nazism and Nazi persecution eventually led to the liquidation of the business in 1939.

Condition
Hallmarks on the inside rim are clear, overall condition good, light wear to the silver surfaces, enameling intact and bright but with some surface undulation possibly due to previous polishing, inside gilt mostly intact, piece presents very well!
