Ancient ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 440-404 BC. Silver tetradrachm (25mm, 17.19 gm, 8h). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 5/5. Early (?) mid-mass coinage issue. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll / AÃŽËœE, owl standing right, head facing, olive sprig and crescent moon behind, all within incuse square. HGC 4, 1597. SNG Copenhagen 31-40. Kroll 8. Note - the portrait and devices for this series of the mid-mass coinage are larger than the more compact style of the issues that follow.
