A fine Derby coffee can and saucer by William 'Quaker' Pegg, circa 1796
Fully painted with complex sprays of garden flowers, reserved on a pale blue ground within gilded stiff leaf borders, a foliate band gilded below the interior rim, can 7cm high, crown, crossed batons and D marks in puce (2)

A can similarly painted by the same hand on a cream-coloured ground and attributed to William Billingsley is illustrated by WD John, William Billingsley (1968), col. pl.4A. However, a coffee can and saucer of pattern 475 from the Doris Wheatley Collection is also by the same hand, pattern 475 being allocated to Pegg in the factory pattern books.
