A rare engraved armorial rummer, circa 1820
The generous, slightly tapering, bucket bowl with the arms of the Worshipful Company of Curriers, a cross between four pairs of crossed currier's shaves or pairing knives, a crest of two arms embowed with sleeves folded holding a shave, resting on a helmet, supported by a horse and a bull, a banner below inscribed with the Latin motto 'SPES NOSTRA DEUS' (God is our Hope), the reverse with a polished oval frame containing the initials 'JMS', surmounted by a basket of fruit, all within a tied floral sprays, the stem with a solid cushion knop, over a circular foot, 15.7cm high
