Footnotes:
Collection of original comic artwork by John K. Geering (1941-1999), best known for his work over a period of 30 years for D.C. Thomson in comics such as The Beano, The Dandy, Sparky, The Topper, Cracker, Plug and Nutty, his first strip being 'Puss and Boots' (in Sparky, 1969-1977), whose surreal storylines also appeared in Topper and The Dandy.

Geering's best known creations include 'Bananaman' (the bungling superhero whose alter-ego is a stubble-headed schoolboy, first drawn by Geering in The Dandy), the aforementioned 'Puss 'n' Boots' , and 'Smudge' ('the world's dirtiest schoolboy', The Beano, for which he also wrote the scripts). He also created 'The Nutters' ('three crafty dodgers - the Nutty squirrel lodgers', booted out of their park home for keeping coal in the bath) and 'Antchester United', the insect football team 'with all the talent and even more legs'.

Geering was also commissioned to draw Desperate Dan (1994-1997), Mini the Minx, Keyhole Kate and Dennis the Menace, all of which were drawn without Geering ever being allowed to sign his work, in line with D.C. Thomson policy.

Geering also worked at Cosgrove Hall animation studios in Manchester on Danger Mouse (storyboard artist), Count Duckula, and the 1989 film of The BFG (designer, background artist and special effects creator); his last new strip was Dean's Dino, which he drew for The Beano shortly before his death.
