Patek Philippe produced the reference 5040 from 1992 until approximately 2007. This complicated perpetual calendar is a highly recognisable timepiece with its striking dial, applied numerals and unique tonneau shaped case. Housed within this present reference is Calibre 240 Q, which was discontinued after over two decades of production. Calibre 240 Q can be found also in the ever popular Reference 3940 perpetual calendar, which was produced in much greater quantity than this rarer Reference 5040, hence increasing collectability of the latter.

It is estimated that 450 examples were executed in rose gold thus making this example one of the rarer versions available. This example is a 2nd Series piece as denoted by the movement number starting 312xxxx.
