Description
Historic hotel and rooming house in the Railroad Avenue Historic District in Las Vegas, New Mexico. - Gene Garriott (1930-1995)Frame Size: 44 in L x 32 in H - Painting: 32 in L x 22 1/2 ****Gene Garriott, realist painter of the rural West, was born in San Francisco, California in 1930 and came to make his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1961. Having moved around the West a great deal, he acquired a traveling habit at an early age. As a result, he never ‘zeroed in’ on any particular region or subject matter, preferring to paint a wide variety of scenes that intrigues him, including diverse subjects as a sidewalk sale in Denver and a gold mining operation in Alaska. Many of his artworks depict New Mexico and the surrounding western states, but he also painted many still life, street scenes, trains and rail yards, portraits, and animals, among other things.
