Description:
2 volumes. Illustrated with wood engravings by Thomas Bewick. (12mo) 18.6x11.5 cm (7¼x4½"), finely bound by Wheeler in paneled calf tooled in blind on spine, morocco lettering pieces, all edges stained red and decoratively blindstamped, feather-marbled endpapers. Second Edition.
English antiquary Joseph Ritson first published this collection in 1795 with the magnificent wood engravings of Thomas Bewick. Together Ritson and Bewick solidified our modern image of Robin Hood as a noble outlaw fighting the 'titled ruffians and sainted idiots' of Medieval England.

Some scuffs and light abrasions to calf; hinges repaired; very good or better.
