This is a rare speckled blue glaze face jug, likely due to a double dip glazing process. See lot #47 if the buyer may be interested in purchasing of this glaze! Melvin L (ML) Owens (b1917-d2003) was one greatest potters in NC history, part of a family tradition that continues. His children that are potters include Bobby, Vernon (co-owner of Jugtown w/ his wife Pam), Ina Owens Bolick, Boyd, and Nancy Owens. Son of James Henry & Martha Scott Owens. JH had his own shop, while Martha created her famed hand-created chickens for Jugtown Pottery. Dates to likely earlier 1980's. The face jug is signed on bottom. Stands 7.25" tall.
