May 3, 1775 Rhode Island Six Pence PMG Very Good-10
Colony of Rhode Island. May 3, 1775. Six Pence. Uniface printed. PMG graded Very Good-10.
Fr. RI-175. This early American Revolutionary War Currency Act of May 3, 1775 came just Two Weeks after "The Shot Heard Round the World" was fired at Lexington Green on the morning of April 19th, 1775, initiating hostilities and open warfare. This note has an evenly circulated appearance with moderate conservation noted on its holder, at its corners. This uniface printed Six Pence note is the lowest denomination of the issue. Only 8,000 notes were printed in 1775 all to be turned back to the Treasury and destroyed, being replaced with the January 15, 1776 currency issue. These notes carried a 2.5% Annual Interest rate. Uniface printed, its PMG holder states backed, repaired, as is is with contemporary heavy rag paper which is very clean having No notations present. Within three border cuts at top and both sides are typeset text and the Rhode Island Seal at center left. A very scarce issue that was heavily circulated with most notes known in Good or less, most tattered. Though this note has seen significant circulation it still has clear details. A very scarce and collectable note.
