Description
Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1971), known as LBJ, served as the Senate majority leader and later Vice President to John F. Kennedy from 1961-1963 before succeeding him as the 36th President of the United States of America. This poster was created for his Vice Presidential campaign.Johnson continued many of John F. Kennedy's policies. His most notable accomplishment in office include the design of the "Great Society," a series of social policies that laid the foundation for the modern Democratic party. These issues included legislation upholding civil rights, public broadcasting, Medicare, Medicaid, aid to education, the arts, urban and rural development, public services, and his "War on Poverty."In his first campaign for President in 1964, Johnson defeated the Republican opponent, Barry Goldwater in a landslide election having won 44 states. However due to the extreme unpopularity of the Vietnam war, Johnson decided not to run for a second term in office. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction.
