**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Coast of Peru, Late Nazca, Phase 6, ca. 550 to 750 CE. A fabulous pottery jar elaborately adorned with complex zoomorphic imagery, all skillfully hand-painted in vibrant hues of orange, burgundy, yellow, gray, cream, and black. Sitting upon a curved base, the vessel presents a wide hip and a sloped shoulder that rises to a corseted neck and a flared rim. The body features a horizontal row of 5 mythical killer whales of the "Bloody Mouth" type, all shown highly stylized with several extended spiraling features. Alternatively, the rim is embellished by a band of 11 minimalist fish. Size: 4.3" Diameter x 3.4" H (10.9 cm x 8.6 cm)
Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000

Condition
Professionally repaired with restoration and repainting. Minor chipping to rim. Some light surface wear as commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice with great pigments and detail. Collection label on base.
