Catalog Note:
Lewis Cass Lutz was on the faculty of the Cincinnati Art Academy and possibly one of Bruce Horsfall's teachers. Lutz died tragically after a fall on the steps of the Art Academy at age 38. The vase is certainly a tribute to Lutz, perhaps from his friend Horsfall or from someone else at the Art Academy, or someone from Rookwood, many of whose decorators were graduates of the Art Academy. Horsfall typically signed his work at Rookwood with the letter B, or, simply, as in this case, with his middle name, Bruce.
