Description
Jacob de Backer (c. 1555 – c. 1591) attributed, Danae and the Golden RainJacob de Backer, who painted the subject several times:, found a model for this beautiful painting in Titian`s work. The theme of his painting is taken from Greek mythology. Zeus, the father of the gods, was very resourceful in choosing the form to approach the young female beauty: Like a swan, like a cloud, or in the case of Danae like a golden rain. The king's daughter pulls out a bodice with a servant in a bowl to catch the rain in her lap.Jacob de Backer, a Flemish who had never been to Italy, nevertheless managed to convincingly combine Florentine Mannerism and, above all, G. Vasari in his paintings. The composition is remarkable, beautiful and naked. Danae gives up the events in her bedroom. Jacob de Backer's ingenuity is told through a beautiful still life, a peacock as a symbol of fertility and also a dog of loyalty. In addition, the landscape / park at the top of the painting is of very high quality, which indicates that Jan Breughel I. took his part in the painting. Oil on canvas, 145,5 x 206 cm.
