Description
**First Time At Auction**
Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely, matched pair of brass candlesticks with Cyrillic maker marks stamped along the edges of the base that likely translate to "Ivan Samsonov of Tula." Both of an elegant and simple form, they rest on stable square bases with a tiered columnar and hollow body and outturned sconce rim. The surface is highly polished and has wonderful signs of use, and these could still be used for lighting or display! Size (taller candlestick): 3.75" L x 3.75" W x 8.75" H (9.5 cm x 9.5 cm x 22.2 cm)
Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-private Arkansas, USA collection, via descent in 2021; ex-private Florida estate, USA, acquired from the 1960s to 1970s

Condition
Minor tears to rims of sconce. Abrasions and nicks from age and use related wear. Perforation to brass stem on taller candlestick. Remains of wax and areas of green patina. Surfaces have been lightly polished.
