Oil on canvas. Portrait of a lavish young woman seated against blue drapery. Fanciful gilt frame.Artist Bio: Edna Vognild was born November 23, 1877 in Rock Island, Illinois. She completed the majority of her studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in Illinois. She also studied in Paris at the Academie Colarossi and Academie Delecluse. She worked alongside artists such as Charles Hawthorne and Henry Bayley Snell.Vognild created works using primarily oil paints and pastels. Her main areas of interest included portraits, animals and landcsapes. She was a member of the All-Illinois Society of Fine Arts and Society for Sanity in Art in Chicago, among other groups. She had several exhibits at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1910s-1920s. She won a gold medal at the All-Illinois Society of Fine Arts in Chicago in 1937. Vognild also worked as a lecturer later in her career.She passed away November 13, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois.
