Jusepe DE RIBERA. Cupido e Pan.1620-1621 circaAcquaforte, Inciso 164x207. Foglio 166x211 mm. Piccoli margini. Carta vergellata con filigrana “Ancora e iniziali L M entro cerchio sormontato da stella a sei punte”. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Fantastica scena mitologica con il putto alato che impugna un ramoscello e vola verso il satiro. Il pittore e incisore spagnolo, 1591-1652, intorno al 1610 si trasferì in Italia e fu attivo dapprima a Parma, quindi a Roma e infine a Napoli dal 1616. Per oltre un ventennio Ribera ha rappresentato la figura più in vista tra gli artisti partenopei, sui quali non mancò di esercitare una notevole influenza. Nell’ultima parte della sua vita ha avuto come allievo Luca Giordano. La sua opera incisa conta poco meno di venti intagli, alcuni dei quali di assoluta, altissima qualità.Bartsch 12; Brown 18. Etching. Plate 164x207. Sheet 166x211 mm. Thread margins. Printed on laid paper with Watermarked “Anchor and initials LM within a circle surmounted by a six pointed star”. Fine specimen.

The Spanish painter and engraver, 1591-1652, moved to Italy around 1610 and was active first in Parma, then in Rome and finally in Naples from 1616. For over twenty years Ribera represented the most prominent figure among Neapolitan artists, on which he did not fail to exert considerable influence. In the last part of his life he had Luca Giordano as a pupil. His engraved work has just under twenty carvings, some of which are of absolute, very high quality.
