The gold-lettered name of this shop means “prosperity.” Private citizens come here to sell family jewels or other objects. The prices are fixed by the government. It is early summer and people live in the streets at this time. That's why you see women and old men and playing children. And in the crowded streets it is very difficult to take pictures without everybody looking at you. When you keep walking, people are all around you, and as soon as you have your camera out, they gather around you.” (Marc Riboud) „Diese Szene wurde im alten Peking durch das Fenster eines Ladens in Liu Li Chang fotografiert, einer Straße, die seit langem für ihre Kunst- und Antiquitätengeschäfte berühmt ist. Der in goldenen Buchstaben geschriebene Name bedeutet „Wohlstand“. Privatleute kommen hierher, um Familienschmuck oder andere Gegenstände zu verkaufen. Die Preise werden von der Regierung festgelegt. Es ist Frühsommer und die Menschen leben zu dieser Zeit auf der Straße. Deshalb sieht man auch Frauen, alte Männer und spielende Kinder. Und in den überfüllten Straßen ist es sehr schwierig, Fotos zu machen, ohne dass einen alle anstarren. Wenn du weitergehst, sind die Leute überall um dich herum, und sobald du deine Kamera zückst, versammeln sie sich um dich.“ (Marc Riboud)
