Richard Wagner Autograph Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 4.25" x 5.5", Starnberg; June 16, 1864. Addressed to Wendelin [Wessheimer], Wagner playfully chastises him for the delay in his visit. The letter is in German but is accompanied by a typed transcription in both English and German and a carte de visite of Wagner. He writes, in full [English translation]: "Now you are late – now I am unable to receive you in my house as my guest room will be filled these days by whole families, for some time. Why did you dawdle so long? You had plenty of time to make up your mind, and I have been quite lonely. Now do marry, and at least do pay me a visit on your wedding voyage. Cordial greetings to your family and to the spouse-to-be...(Please send me the volume by Schopenhauer only!)" Signed, "Richard Wagner." Wendelin Wessheimer was a fellow German composer and close friend of Wagner's. The two men were neighbors for a period in the 1860s until Wagner moved to Starnberg in 1864.
