Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Cypriot culture, Late Bronze Age, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A hand-built pottery askos used for pouring libations during ceremonial rituals. The quadruped vessel takes the form of an abstract bull with a cylindrical body, a quartet of nubbin legs, a perky tail on the verso, and an arching handle culminating in a rim surrounding the narrow fill hole atop the back. Bands of applied black pigment created a striped motif across the charming bovine along with thick spots adorning the neck. The raised head exhibits a pair of incised circular eyes, a protruding spout with a perforated mouth, and a grand pair of horns. Size: 6.2" L x 2.2" W x 5.5" H (15.7 cm x 5.6 cm x 14 cm)
