Wiki Notes: Van Halen was an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California, in 1972. Van Halen was known for its energetic live shows and for the virtuosic talent of its lead guitarist, Eddie Van Halen. Origin: Pasadena, California, U.S . Genres: Hard rock; heavy metal; glam metal; pop-rock. Van Halen (1985–1996) lead singer: Samuel Roy Hagar, also known as The Red Rocker, came to prominence in the 1970s with the hard rock band Montrose. He then launched a successful solo career, scoring a hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55". During Hagar's stint as Van Halen's vocalist, the band was often informally referred to by fans as "Van Hagar" as a way to distinguish the band from the previous David Lee Roth era.
